Your Adventure Awaits!

Your adventure begins when you are greeted by your experienced Pilot and Crew. After a short trip to your launch site, you watch with awe, as a balloon almost eight stories tall, takes shape from a seemingly endless stream of nylon fabric.

Flight Information

You are briefed for your lift-off and an experience that will live for all time in your memory. As you majestically rise, you realize that the air is so pure, that it almost seems to cleanse the spirit.

During your flight, with the exception of the occasional roar of the burner, the only sounds you hear are the sounds of nature, or the envious people cheering from the ground.

After drifting leisurely for approximately fourty five minutes to an hour, you prepare for landing and return to Mother Earth. Once safely on the ground, you recount your adventure while sipping on a crystal flute of chilled Champagne.

Whether sailing high above the countryside, or tracking the balloon’s flight on the ground, everyone involved participates in the unique thrill that is ballooning!

Transport Canada has created an informative brochure about Hot Air Ballooning in Canada

Flight Length: Flights are approximately fourty five minutes to one hour long. However, we do require you for up to four hours for the entire adventure.

Flight Location: All of our flights take place over the countryside in the York Region area, about an hour’s drive north of downtown Toronto. Since we travel with the wind, our take-off location varies with the prevailing wind of that day. On the day of your flight, we will meet you at a location close to the launch site and transport you in our vehicles to the launch area. At the conclusion of your adventure, we will return you to your vehicle.

Flight Times: Hot Air Balloons fly close to sunrise and sunset, as this is the time when the air currents are usually ideal. Therefore flight times vary with the seasons. As a rule of thumb, we usually meet a ½ hour before sunrise for our morning flights and 2 ½ hours before sunset for our evening flights.

Flying Season: Our passenger flying season runs from the beginning of May until the end of October.

Clothing: Although usual conditions predict comfortable in-flight temperatures, passengers should always be prepared for occasional extremes. Always dress for the ground temperature as it may up to 10 degrees warmer in the balloon. Flat enclosed shoes (no sandals or open toe shoes) are mandatory and we recommend long pants for all passengers.

Baggage: Due to limited space on board, no luggage, backpacks, purses, etc. are allowed. Safekeeping is provided for, in our vehicles.

Gratuities: Gratuities for your Pilot and Crew are not included in your ticket pricing and should be extended on an individual basis.

Reservations: To confirm your booking, we require a 50% deposit. We accept Visa and MasterCard and are authorized to bill your account over the phone. The balance of your flight cost is due at the time of your flight. Early reservations are recommended.

Cancellations: Regardless of the reason, cancellations, transfers to another date and other changes result in a costly process and therefore we cannot make an exception to the following assessment:

  • 72 Hours or more to scheduled flight – Full refund of deposit;
  • Less than 72 hours prior to scheduled flight – Loss of 50% of deposit;
  • No Show/Miss/Late for confirmed flight – Loss of deposit.
  • Flights cancelled by Skyworks for any reason receive a full refund, or the deposit may be applied towards booking another date. In the case of Gift Certificates, no refund is applicable; however the flight may be rescheduled to another date.

  • Q: IS HOT AIR BALLOONING SAFE?

Absolutely! Hot Air Ballooning is considered one of the safest forms of aviation. This is due to the training and experience of our pilots, maintenance of our equipment and the fact that we will only fly passengers in perfect ballooning weather conditions. Our Pilots have flown over 20,000 passengers accident free.

  • Q: WHAT KIND OF WEATHER IS NEEDED?

To ensure a safe flight, we require light winds (both on the surface and at altitude), good visibility and no risk of precipitation or thunderstorms.

  • Q: I AM SCARED OF HEIGHTS AND SOMETIMES GET MOTION SICKNESS, CAN I STILL FLY?

Definitely! Ballooning offers a unique experience. There is no feeling of movement or sensation of height. It feels as though you are on a stationary platform and that the world is coming to you. If you hold a candle in your hand as you fly, it will not flicker. Many of our passengers have told us that they are unable to stand on a balcony but did not have any problems being in the balloon.

  • Q: CAN YOU STEER A BALLOON?

There is no device with which to steer, but our highly skilled and professional Pilots are remarkably adept at using the variation in the wind direction at different altitudes to frequently direct their balloons.

  • Q: HOW FAST DO BALLOONS FLY?

The balloon travels with the speed of the wind. No flights will be launched if it appears that we will exceed 15 km/hr upon landing. 10 km/hr is an ideal speed; one walks at 5 km/hr.

  • Q: IS IT COLD IN THE BASKET?

Since we fly with the wind, there is no wind chill. In addition, the heat from the burners radiate down to the basket. It is not uncommon for it to be 10 degrees warmer in the balloon than on the ground.

  • Q: HOW HIGH DO WE FLY?

In general, we prefer to fly close to the ground at altitudes where you can appreciate the contours of the earth. We fly approximately 1,000 feet over built-up areas, and if conditions permit, will come down low enough to touch the tops of the trees over the countryside.

  • Q: WHAT KIND OF TRAINING DO BALLOONS PILOTS HAVE?

All Pilots are required to hold a valid license issued by Transport Canada. Our Pilots are additionally required to have high hour experience flying commercial balloons.

  • Q: HOW MANY PEOPLE CAN GO IN THE BALLOON?

Although our baskets can accommodate up to four passengers, our lifting capacity is based on weight. Therefore the combined weight per group of two passengers cannot exceed 375 lbs. and the maximum weight per individual passenger cannot exceed 265 lbs.

  • Q: IS AGE OR HEALTH A CONCERN?

Yes. We unfortunately cannot accept passengers less than ten years of age, pregnant women, or those with extreme heart, back or health problems. Our most mature passenger was ninety-nine.
